Today's Passage is 1 Kings 2:1-3:28
In 1 Kings 2:6&9, King David acknowledges Solomon as a man of wisdom. Solomon must have displayed some kind of wisdom in order for his father (King David) to make these statements. Yet in chapter three, Solomon asks God for wisdom to rule over Israel and God delivers in a big way. We see this wisdom demonstrated in the way Solomon handles the two prostitutes at the end of our reading today!
Questions to Consider
1. Was there a difference between the wisdom that Solomon possessed in chapter 2 and the wisdom that God gave him in chapter three? (See 1 Kings 3:3)
2. Read 1 Corinthians 1:20-25. What does Paul pray say about the wisdom of this world in the eyes of God? How does what God say about the wisdom of the world inform us as children of God?
3. Solomon was "called" of God to rule over Israel and he displayed the wisdom of God in dealing with the two prostitutes in their dispute over the baby. If we want want wisdom from God as His "called" people, from whom do we get it? (see 1 Cor.
1:24)
Pray
James 1:5 says if we lack wisdom, we must do what Solomon did....we need to ask God in faith. Ask the Lord for His wisdom (in Christ) to be able to discern God's will for your life today.
