The greatest miracle in the history of the world, the birth
of the Son of God as a man, to Mary a humble, young woman is told in today’s
passage. This marvelous event happened in a quiet stable in the village of
Bethlehem. The few details we are given in Luke give a glimpse into the very
moment our Savior was born. The angle that appeared to the shepherds announcing
the birth of the Messiah said, “fear not, for behold, I bring you good news of
great joy that will be for all the people”. In return for seeing baby Jesus they
glorified and praised God, for everything was as it had been told. We also read
about Simeon who is waiting for the consolation of Israel, the hope that God
would come and rescue and comfort his people. Many others were also eagerly
awaiting this hope.
Questions to Consider:
1)
What are some verses that jump out that you may
not pick up during the busy Christmas season?
2)
In vs. 10, what is this “good news of great
joy”?
3)
Anna is an example of a humble servant of God.
What did she do leading up to Christ’s birth and following it?
Ways to pray:
Thank you Lord for coming to this earth and taking on human
flesh to save us, your people. Help us to remember this great miracle that took
place and follow the example of Anna, becoming a humble servant and proclaiming
what you have done and giving thanks to You.
