e100 Challenge Day 50 - The Day of Judgement - Malachi 1:1-4:6

The book of Malachi is one of three books of the Old Testament (Haggai, Zechariah and Malachi) written to the Israelites after their return from 70 years of captivity in Babylon.  This captivity was a result of God's discipline because of Israel's failure to honor God with their lives.

Another generation returns to the land just as God had prophesied many years before through the prophet Jeremiah.  As you read God's rebuke through Malachi, you will quickly see that the Israelites still struggle with their sin.

As we close the Old Testament readings, we have established a recurring theme in the Bible of God's amazing faithfulness to His covenantal promise starting with Abraham and man's repeated disobedience.  We should be thankful for God's long suffering with His people, for without it man would have no relationship with God.

Discussion Questions...

1. Think about the statement, "I have loved you, says the Lord" (1:2).  In spite of all the rebuke of Israel's sins, how is this statement demonstrated throughout the book?  See Deuteronomy 4:37.

2. List the specific sin practices God points out to the Israelites.  Write them on a piece of paper and ponder them.  How are they similar to the sins we commit?

3.  What do we learn about God?  His love?  His faithfulness to His covenant promises to Israel?

4.  How does that strengthen your understanding about God's love for you?

How Should we Pray?

Lord, thank you for your faithful love which we see all through the Scriptures.  Thank you for not treating us as we deserve.  Help us to honor you with our lives.  We love you Lord.  Amen.

The Bux-Mont & Telford Campuses of the Penn Valley Church Multi-site Network are participating in the e100 Challenge, a 100-day Bible reading program. True revival comes from prayer and knowing the Word of God. We can only live the life God intended if we know what He says about it. Join us as we read through this plan and grow deeper in our knowledge of God's Word.
