The Sermon on the Mount (part 2) is filled with interesting information. There is much teaching in this section...
How to Pray (6:5-15)
How to Fast (6:16-18)
Treasures in Heaven (6:19-24)
Do to Worry (6:25-34)
Do Not Judge Hypocritically (7:1-6)
Ask, Seek, Knock (7:7-12)
The Narrow Gate (7:13-14)
False Prophets (7:15-23)
The Wise Builder (7:24-27)
Perhaps the most fascinating passage in this text is its conclusion, "When Jesus had finished saying these things, the crowds were amazed at his teaching, for he taught with real authority-quite unlike their teachers of religious law."
1. It is clear Jesus is not promoting religion. If He is not teaching religion, what is the purpose of His discourse?
2. Yesterday, we challenged you to look at the heart when thinking about Jesus' teaching. Looking about the teaching on Prayer and Fasting, what heart issues is Jesus addressing? And the others?
3. How could Jesus' teaching on the wise builder (vv. 24-27) sum up the entire section?
3. How could Jesus' teaching on the wise builder (vv. 24-27) sum up the entire section?
How Should we Pray?
Lord, thank you for your teaching in this passage. Help me to place all my confidence in you that I might withstand the storms of life.
